The analysis authored by researcher Milena Mkoyan, dedicated to the process of militarization throughout the world and in the region, was published within the framework of the “Armenian Studies” program of the “Armenian Project” scientific and educational non-governmental organization. It is also available in the “Haykakan Channel” periodical.
From the end of 2021, the international security horizon is dominated by the intensifying confrontations between Russia and Ukraine, as well as between China and the USA. Leaving aside the analysis of the causes of the created crisis, we note that the created situation raised the problem of global militarization, which until then seemed to be a factor remaining in the Cold War past and currently not relevant. Meanwhile, many global and regional trends point to the problem of global militarization, recording that countries continue to rely on armaments, increasing the security dilemma.
The present study addresses these trends in more detail, highlighting in particular those directly or indirectly linked to the Armenian agenda to confirm that the world is going militarized and that any unilateral pacifist agenda is false and fraught with disaster.
The study shows that all quantitative indicators of military spending are increasing, recording global and regional militarization, which is accompanied by relevant political decisions and statements. This gives a sufficient basis to claim that the global militarization is not one-sided, a process that started even earlier than the last Ukrainian crisis, due to realpolitik, in other words, the national interests and goals of the states. And the one-sided peace-loving policy of the de facto authorities of Armenia, which is accompanied by the reduction and disbandment of the armed forces, is full of only ontological disaster, because the trend of militarization, including anti-Armenian orientation, is evident in our region and the regions close to us.
